A hotel, resort and hospitality company wanted to have a better understanding of the nature of bribery and corruption risks that might be implicated across its diverse, global operations. Program Evaluation and Improvement

One of the world’s largest engineering, procurement and construction firms had a well-established ethics and compliance program. Given a prior history of compliance challenges and a desire by the company’s leadership to ensure the program was operating effectively, the company wanted to have an independent evaluation performed on its program. CSLG benchmarked the program against government standards and industry best practices and engaged with management and employees across all of its major divisions to identify program strengths and improvement opportunities.

A global insurance company wanted a top-down review of its compliance program. A Global Oilfield Services Company

Independent Monitoring

As part of its settlement with the SEC related to an FCPA violation, a global oilfields services company was required to appoint an independent consultant for a two-year term. The company appointed a member of CSLG to the role with the SEC’s consent. During his term, CSLG developed practical recommendations for strengthening the company’s approach to managing bribery and corruption risk, which the company adopted as part of its government settlement.

 
 

A Top Aerospace and Defense Company

Independent Monitoring

As part of its settlement with the U.S. Air Force related to a federal procurement fraud violation, a large aerospace and defense company was required to appoint an independent firm to evaluate the effectiveness of its ethics and compliance program. The company appointed CSLG to the role with the approval of the U.S. Air Force. During its term, CSLG reviewed and made recommendations for strengthening the company’s ethics and compliance program, which the company adopted as part of its government settlement.

 
 

United States of America vs. A Major Bank

Expert Witness Advisory

In determining whether to bring charges against a major bank for wrongdoing committed by its employees, prosecutors from the Department of Justice retained a member of CSLG to advise them on the adequacy of the company’s compliance program.

 
 

United States of America vs. A Global Shipping Company

Expert Witness Advisory

As part of a criminal antitrust trial stemming from its participation in cartel activity, a global shipping company retained a member of CSLG as an expert witness and to advise on claims related to the effectiveness of its compliance efforts under the Department of Justice Amnesty program.

 
 

A Global Humanitarian Relief Organization

Interim Compliance Management

A global humanitarian relief agency retained a member of CSLG to serve as Interim Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer to oversee and strengthen all aspects of the compliance program, including risk assessments, policies, due diligence, communications, training programs, global investigations, government disclosures and issue remediation.  The position reported jointly to the CEO and the board of directors.

A Major International Airline

Transaction Support

Following the merger of two airlines, the newly combined company retained CSLG to advise on the post-merger integration of its two legacy compliance programs. CSLG assisted in the company in identifying and maximizing the best features from each legacy program and making other program improvements given increased scale of the new business.
